Jessie Schut

$0.00

Jessie Schut was born in Holland, raised in Ontario, survived 33 years in Alberta and is now living the dream in BC. She has worked with textiles since she was 5 years old. Quilting became a passion in the mid 80s, but since her move to BC, she creates textile art almost exclusively, finally allowing her inner artist free reign. She has had a solo exhibit of her Crow pieces, and participated in group exhibits where she won several ribbons. She is happiest when she can combine her love of textiles with her love of writing.

Artist Statement: “I resonate deeply with the words of Kenneth Clark: 'Creation is a response; it is not something you have to make. You only deliver colors and shapes that the great postman of creation entrusts you to carry.' My best work comes out of who I am and my awareness of my connection to the universe. We are all in this life together, and it is my goal that viewers will get a sense of that when they regard my work, most of which is inspired by nature. I like to create pieces that appear painterly, and most enjoy working with saturated colours and organic shapes.
