Art Classes Comox

Art Class at Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox

As a proud nonprofit society, we don't have any paid staff — our gallery in Comox is powered entirely by the passion and dedication of our amazing volunteers.

We’re all about showcasing local talent. Artists from around the area bring our walls to life with vibrant exhibitions that change throughout the year. Whether you’re into paintings, sculptures, or something a little different, there’s always something new to see.

Not only do we offer artists a fantastic platform to share and sell their work, but we also connect art lovers with the freshest creative voices around. Plus, our art classes and events are perfect for getting everyone in the community involved in art.

At the Pearl Ellis Gallery, we’re more than just an art gallery — we’re a community, and we're here to celebrate art together.

Comox Valley Art Gallery

Our Story

In 1977, a dedicated group of arts enthusiasts established the Comox Arts Society and launched a one-room gallery in Comox. Initially supported by a modest government grant, the gallery now thrives through commissions on art and card sales, membership fees, and generous in-kind support from the Town of Comox. In 2005, the organization adopted its current name, the Pearl Ellis Gallery, in honor of one of its founders.

The Pearl Ellis Gallery is a unique and cherished space in the heart of Comox. Run by dedicated and creative volunteer members, the gallery supports the local arts community and provides an inspiring experience to all who visit.

Reflecting on our legacy and future aspirations, we have crafted our Vision and Mission statements:

Vision Statement: To be a dynamic and inclusive hub that inspires art lovers and nurtures creatives.

Mission Statement: We affirm the value of making art and foster community growth by offering engaging exhibitions and creative learning opportunities.

These statements articulate our purpose and remind us that our primary focus is supporting and connecting with our members—the heart of the gallery.

Fostering Art and Connection

  • Inclusive Art Exhibitions

We provide a welcoming space for local talent—from emerging artists to seasoned professionals—to showcase their work, either in a 4-week exhibition or a seasonal pop-up event. Each year, our four members' shows are open to all, offering a fantastic venue for members to display their latest creations. Our four concept shows are theme-based, with works selected by a jury, as are our four open juried spots, which feature exciting proposals from individuals or groups.

  • Bursary

Our annual bursary program further reflects our mission. Each spring, two graduating students from Comox Valley high schools receive $1,000 bursaries to support their pursuit of post-secondary studies in visual arts. This initiative fosters community growth and supports the next generation of artists in their creative journeys.

  • The Gallery

Today, the Pearl Ellis Gallery shares a spacious and welcoming location with the Comox Archives and Museum Society. Together, we offer visitors a dynamic experience, with frequently changing displays that provide fresh perspectives for art lovers and curious minds alike.

  • Our Volunteers

At the heart of this vibrant space are our volunteer hosts, who ensure every visit is a positive experience. They warmly greet visitors, assist with memberships and art sales, and share insights about the gallery and its exhibitions.

  • Free Admission

Whether you’re looking to add a special piece of art to your collection, find a meaningful gift, or simply enjoy the creativity of local artists, you’ll always find something new and exciting to explore.
