Brenda Matsen
Brenda Matsen is an international award-winning representational artist. Growing up on a farm in northern British Columbia and living in rural communities fostered her love of nature and observing animals in their environments. Brenda enjoys working from her own reference photos she has taken of wildlife in western Canada. Brenda's works are enjoyed in numerous private collections in Canada, the US and Europe.
Brenda Matsen is a Master Pastelist with Pastel Artists.CA, a Signature Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and an Elected Member of the Society of Canadian Artists. After Rescuing a Mallard ducking in the Spring of 2024 and taking it to MARS Wildlife Rescue, Brenda looked for ways to help support the good work they do for wildlife in her area which led to Brenda applying for and being accepted as an Associate Member of the Artists for Conservation (AFC) with MARS Wildlife Rescue as her organization of choice to support.
Brenda is inspired by the moments that build the stories of our lives and passionate about creating realistic artwork to capture those moments in time to create an opportunity for the viewer to pause and observe the world around us; allowing the viewer to come closer and experience the environment where we live, work and play.
Brenda Matsen's love of learning and creating has been a constant theme throughout her life. After raising a family in northern British Columbia and a career spanning 30 plus years in health care in the north, Brenda and her husband along with their dogs moved to Vancouver Island where she now focuses on her art. Brenda returns to northern BC regularly to visit family and friends, always stopping along the way to take photos as she travels throughout western Canada.
