How to exhibit a Group or Solo Show

Applications for 2025 closed.

Each year, we offer four exhibition slots for solo, joint, or group shows. The call for submissions for the upcoming year takes place in October. These spots are chosen by a jury and selections are announced in November. Please note that submissions for 2025 are now closed.

These coveted spots are awarded to individuals or groups who present compelling proposals that showcase a unique perspective or cohesive body of work. We’re looking for creative ideas that spark interest and conversation! Whether you’re an emerging artist or part of an established group, we encourage you to share your inspiration—be it themes of identity, community, personal experiences, or other meaningful concepts—and how your work reflects those ideas.

Submission Tips

  • Clearly describe your work and its theme or concept.

  • Whether applying for a solo, joint, or group show, a cohesive theme is recommended.

  • Include clear photos of your work or similar pieces you plan to create. Sketches of proposed pieces are also welcome.

  • Once accepted, artists or groups are responsible for selecting the final pieces for the exhibition, ensuring they align with the proposal.

  • For joint shows, each artist must submit an individual proposal and indicate their preferred co-exhibitor. While we aim to honor preferences, pairings cannot be guaranteed.

  • For group shows, one member should submit a proposal on behalf of the group. Include examples of work from as many members as possible or photos of past exhibitions featuring multiple pieces.

Responsibilities

The artist or group contact is responsible for key tasks to ensure a successful art show. These include preparing a press release with accompanying photographs, distributing promotional posters, and organizing a reception.

Prepare a Press Release

  • Create a press release of approximately 350 words.

  • Include the artist's or group's name, show title and description, show dates, reception date and time, and details of any draws for art pieces or prizes.

  • For solo or joint shows, provide an artist statement, sources of inspiration, and relevant details.

  • For groups, include the group's history and what inspires their artistic work.

  • Include 6 photographs of artworks to be featured in the show.

  • Email the press release and photographs to the Publicity Coordinator.

Distribute Posters

  • The Show Coordinator will provide promotional posters.

  • A list of locations for poster distribution will be supplied.

Hold a Reception

  • The artist or group must host a reception or meet and greet in conjunction with the art show.

  • Receptions are typically held on the first Saturday afternoon after the show begins.

  • The gallery provides a card table, large folding table, tablecloths, coffee urn, and punch bowl.

  • The artist or group supplies finger foods (e.g., crackers, meat, cheese, cookies, cake), beverages (coffee, tea, punch), and serving items (cups, glasses, plates—no Styrofoam—and napkins).

  • Background music is permitted.

  • Liquor is not allowed.
