February at the Gallery: Artist Call, Shows & Events
2025 is off to a dynamic start with “Lenses and Layers,” our photography and digital art show, drawing in enthusiastic visitors and strong sales. Thank you to everyone who has supported this vibrant exhibition!
Our current show, “Through Lines,” showcases diverse printmaking techniques from the Comox Valley Printmakers Association. If you’re curious about this art form, the exhibit includes informational panels and tools on display. Plus, on the next three Saturday afternoons, we’ll host live demonstrations where you can see the printmaking process in action.
Next up, we’re finalizing submissions for our first members’ show of the year: “Awakening.” This exhibition will highlight a wide range of original works from our talented members.
Submissions are still open for “Ebb and Flow” until February 18.
This exhibition is part of Waterways: The Comox Valley Gallery Hop, a coordinated event featuring nine galleries across the valley. The idea for this exciting initiative came from our very own Susan Sarada, who continues to inspire with her outside-the-box thinking!
If that wasn’t enough, don’t forget our satellite galleries. While the Comox Library is fully booked for 2025, spaces are still available at the Comox Community Centre. Openings are available for the next time slot (March 2–May 4), so if you’re interested, please contact Carol Imai at sat.gal.coordinator@pearlellisgallery.ca to secure a spot.
Art and Found Day is back on Wednesday, March 12, and we’re excited to support this global movement of sharing free art with the community! Once again, Pearl Ellis Gallery is sponsoring a wrapping table, where artists can bring their pieces, and we’ll help wrap and label them for the big day—rain or shine. Drop by the gallery, get your art ready, and join the fun of spreading creativity and joy!
To learn more and register your participation, visit Art and Found Day’s website.
A Fresh Look for the Gallery!
I’m also incredibly proud of our new logo and website—all designed by our amazing volunteer members! If you haven’t already, stop by the gallery and ask the host for a new membership card, which lists discounts from local businesses on the back. You can also pick up a bookmark with a full list of our upcoming exhibitions.
Getting Involved
Soon, I’ll be reaching out to members who expressed interest in show hanging. We’ll be hosting a group training session to teach the ins and outs of mounting an exhibition, helping us build a team of volunteers who can support this process.
To keep things running smoothly in our volunteer-run organization, we rely on the generosity of our members, each bringing unique skills and availability. Volunteering is never an obligation; it’s a gift of your time, and we appreciate every contribution, big or small. Whether you’re able to help behind the scenes, participate in exhibitions, or simply support the gallery by visiting and spreading the word, you are a valued part of our community. Every member plays a role in making the Pearl Ellis Gallery a vibrant and welcoming space for artists and art lovers alike.
Looking forward to seeing you at the gallery!
Best,
Teresa Kachanoski
